Civilization Phase

After the tribal phase, the creatures in your tribe is the only intelligent creatures on the planet, and you move on the the civilization phase. This starts out with you creating the town hall and car of your civilization. This is a creator that works the same way the creature creator does, but it will not influence the building or vehicle in any other way than looks.

Your species is the only creature in the world with a civilization, and you no longer fight other species, but instead other groups of your own creatures, with another leader. Other cities will pop up all over the planet, and it is your tast to unite these into one nation.

There are three different ways to approach this, typically decided by the way you have played the earlier phases. The three approaches are economic, religion and warpower. I would argue that economic domination (omnivore) is a bit harder than religion (herbivore) and warpower (carnivore) as you are not allowed to fight other vehicles and cities directly. Instead you have to influence them with money and trading.

After starting to develop your civilization, you will be allowed to create boats to travel on the water and aircrafts able to travel all over the world in addition to the cars. Which type you focus on is up to you, but remember that boats aren’t able to influence, fight with or trade with cities that aren’t placed at the coast. Also, cars are not able to move from one continent to another.

An important factor in the civilization phase is that you no longer focus on food or DNA, but instead of spice. Spice can be collected in various locations around the world, and the money you use to build buildings in your cities and to build vehicles. Fighting for these spices resources is an important part of the Spore Civilization Phase.

There are four different buildings for you to build in the cities. The first building, that all cities start out with and that you can only have one of, is the city hall. In addition there are entertainment buildings that influence the mood of your citizens, factories that give you more income, and houses that boosts both factories and entertainment buildings. Factories and entertainment buildings should not be placed together, as this gives a less effective city.

This phase is a mixture of the realtime strategy from the tribal phase, and civilization, where you develop cities where that you decide what build in. The easiest way to describe it is realtime civilization.

After you have conquered all the cities on the planet, you are ready to build you spaceship, and to explore space. This introduces you to the space phase.
