Space Phase
If you have played all the other phases, you might think that you are soon finished with the game when you reach the Spore Space Phase, but you are absolutely not. I played the first four phases in about six hours, and that was the first time, so I used quite a bit of time. However, the space phase is far from finished, and I have played this phase alone for more than fifteen hours. The Space Phase is really Spore, or Sim Universe.
It starts out with you designing you spaceship, and the civilization on the home planet assigns you as the captain of the new spaceship, allowing interstellar travel between the stars.
This phase is back to you controlling one character, the spaceship, and flying around in the immense universe, meeting hundreds and thousands of new species made by yourself, Maxis and most important, other players. You get quests from both your own planet and other plants with other species. You colonize new worlds, trade with planets and fight other civlizations to expand your interstellar empire.
You now collect and trade spice which will give you Spore cash, allowing you to make you spaceship more powerful, with many types of tools. Some of these tools are friendly and allow you to “paint” planets or make the atmosphere better for the living beings there, other are hostile to kill other space ships, take over cities or destroy whole planets.
For each planet you colonize or take, you are allowed to decide how the new buildings, vehicles and so on should look. You use the same tools as you used in the civilization phase.
You buy upgrades to give you more energy, larger cargohold and more health points. You travel around the galaxy collecting plants, animals and spice, distributing them to other planets and earning Spore Cash. You can even manipulate species and make completely new species if you want. You can help other civilizations tha
t are in the tribal phase to reach the space phase. When you have enough money to buy the device that allow you to travel through black holes. Maybe you will one day find out what is in the middle of the galaxy, or maybe you want to travel to the other side of the galaxy to see how the humans on earth are doing? There are few limits with the thousands of plants and stars.
The Space Phase of Spore is huge, and you can expect many, many hours of game play before you reach the end of the story line, if you choose to follow it. The Space Phase is a mixture of the game Freelancer and Galactic Civilizations, combining the roleplaying elements from the creature phase and the realtime strategy from the civilization phase. This is surely the most important phase in Spore, and the phase with most features and game play.
